| Day 1: Digital Content and Services
The speed of development of digital content and services
continues to pick up around the world. New platforms like
the iPhone or recent Nokia offerings begin to suggest that
operators must become nimble in competing with innovative
business models coming from a variety of players. But the
threat is also an opportunity, as some players have successfully
entered new business areas adjacent to their telecoms space.
Interactive advertising continues to grow, unevenly, and
the rage for user-generated content shows no signs of abating,
driven by new social media in many cases. Once again, we
look at the tug-of-war between the different players in
the telecoms and media value chains, and the changing map
of digital content and services that remains a key growth
area for telecoms players.

Day 2: Operating Model of the Future
Moderated by Andre Levisse, Partner
McKinsey & Company
Airtime per-minute prices are decreasing fast in most countries,
and are sometimes as low as US$ 1cent/minute. Subscribers
these days may own two or three SIMs, and ARPU of new mobile
subscribers can be as low as 1 or 2 US$ per month. How can
mobile and fixed telcos maintain their profitability in
an environment like this? Can they afford to invest in the
future on this kind of revenue base? This panel explores
potential solutions for this dilemma, including new low-cost
operating models, network sharing and outsourcing ideas,
as well as means of optimizing capex. The answers to these
questions impact not just operators, but all who intend
to do business with them, and operate digital content and
services over telco networks.
